Few families have had such a major impact on country music as the Williamses. This 5,000 square foot major exhibition examines the personal lives of Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr. and explores the dynamics that inspired some of the most influential country music ever recorded.

See the connections between these iconic figures and their creative heirs and discover how American music continues to be measured by the standards they set. To tell the story, Hank Williams Jr., Jett Williams and members of the Williams family have offered over 200 rare artifacts never seen by the public, enabling the Museum to create an unforgettably compelling saga of love, heartache and redemption. The voices and music of all family members are heard throughout the exhibit. This major exhibition will present an intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of a great American musical dynasty. Come learn more about the family at the foundation of country music.

Canadian singer Celine Dion released her first album in 1990, establishing herself as a viable pop artist in North America and other English speaking areas of the world. After releasing over twenty-five albums over two decades, Dion announced a temporary retraction from entertainment in 1999 in order to start a family and spend time with her husband. She returned to the music scene in 2002, and a year later, she signed a four-year contract to perform nightly in a five-star theatrical show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.

Dion's music has been influenced by various genres, which range from pop, soul and rock to gospel and classical, and while her releases have often received mixed critical reception, she is renowned for her technically skilled and powerful vocals. In 2004, after accumulating record sales in excess of 175 million, she was presented with the Chopard Diamond Award from the World Music Awards show for becoming the "Best-selling Female Artist in the World." In April 2007 Sony BMG announced that Celine Dion had sold over 200 million albums worldwide.

The Jack Daniel's Distillery and the people of Lynchburg, Tenn., will host more than 60 award-winning barbecue teams at the 19th Annual Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue. The Jack Daniel's Invitational is one of the most prestigious barbecue competitions in the world. Teams from across the United States and around the world compete in the categories of Pork Ribs, Pork Shoulder, Beef Brisket and Chicken. They may also choose to enter the "Jack Daniel's Sauce" (these sauces must contain a little of our hometown product), and Desserts (only rule ... nothing store bought) categories. International teams enjoy being especially creative by entering their "Home Cookin' from the Homeland," while our U.S. championship teams do the same with their "Cook's Choice." And on Friday afternoon, seven of these world-class teams will compete in our unique "I Know Jack... about grillin'!" competition.

Helpful Information: Jack Daniels Distillery is sponsoring the Barbecue held in the Wiseman Park located one block off the town square and the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Arts and Crafts Festival that is held on the town square. For additional information, go to www.jackdaniels.com, or call the Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce at (931) 759-4111.

There is no better way to spend a beautiful October day than at the Annual Oktoberfest Celebration in Historic Germantown. This colorful, autumn festival will again entertain, regale, and delight thousands from Middle Tennessee with its unique brand of traditional German revelry.

The day will begin at 9:30am when the two historic sponsoring churches will conduct community wide worship services. From 9:00am until 6:00pm, the Oktoberfest Street Festival kicks off with fun, food, fellowship, and entertainment. There will be a children's activity area featuring games, pony rides, face painting, clowns and snow cones. Enjoy live German music, four musical stages and street performances by Die Musik Meisters, Music City Swing, Steff Mahan Band and guests, Ted Guillaum (Organ Grinder) and more. Try your taste buds at authentic german food and beverages, as well as specialty home baked goods. Don't forget to check out all the arts and crafts booths, while strolling around the festival!

For more than a quarter century, this original, city wide celebration has been offering authentic German food, crafts, tours, dance, and entertainment. Established in 1980, this festival is one of the few nationwide that can claim an authentic German neighborhood as a venue. Oktoberfest showcases the best of this Germantown neighborhood - it's past history, present revitalization, and expanding future growth and diversity

Helpful Information: The Oktoberfest Festival is held in Nashville's Historic Germantown. The event is located within a six-block area between the Tennessee Bicentennial Mall/Farmer's Market and Taylor Street, and between Fifth Avenue and Rosa L. Parks Boulevard. The two historic churches are on Seventh Avenue North and Monroe Street where the hub of the activities will occur. There is plenty of free parking available beside the festival site and at the Farmer's Market and Bicentennial Mall.

Avenue Q is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbors seem nice. There’s Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fianceé Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his roommate Rod – a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. And would you believe the building’s superintendent is Gary Coleman?!? (Yes, that Gary Coleman.) Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

WARNING: Due to adult situations like full puppet nudity, Avenue Q is not suitable for all audiences.

AGE APPROPRIATENESS: Avenue Q does employ puppets, but due to adult content, it is not suitable for children. Avenue Q has not been authorized or approved by The Jim Henson Company or Sesame Workshop, which have no responsibility for its content.

Bright and riotously funny, this fast-paced, frisky tale is theatre at its very best with this sparkling, all-new production of the Tony Award-winning, Broadway smash hit – The Pajama Game. The feisty employee representative has found her match in the pajama shop superintendent and when the two get together, they wind up discussing a whole lot more than job actions!

The high-energy score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross brims with popular hits and musical theatre standards such as “Hey There,” “Steam Heat” and the hilarious “Hernando’s Hideaway” that will keep you humming all the way home. For solid musical comedy, it’s hard to beat The Pajama Game. Presented by Doubletree Hotel.

EXPERIENCE WHAT BEATLEMANIA WAS ALL ABOUT! FROM ED SULLIVAN TO ABBEY ROAD! – They look like them and they sound just like them! “The next best thing to seeing The Beatles,” raves the Denver Post. All the music and vocals are performed totally live! Rain covers the Fab Four from the earliest beginnings through the psychedelic late ‘60s and their long-haired hippie, hard-rocking rooftop days.

Rain is a multi-media, multi-dimensional experience...a fusion of historical footage and hilarious television commercials from the 1960s lights up video screens and live cameras zoom in for close-ups. “Uncanny! Rain are a quartet of fine musicians in their own right…as The Beatles, they triumph!” cheers the Boston Herald. “An adoring Valentine to The Beatles,” declares the Washington Post. Sing along with your family and friends to such Beatlemaniac favorites as “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude,” “My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Come Together” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”

All hail the queen! Pioneering vocalist Kitty Wells made the transition from "girl singer" to bonafide country music star, blazing a trail followed by artists such as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Reba McEntire. A Nashville native, Wells first performed with her husband, Johnnie Wright. Her breakthrough hit, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," gave voice to a woman's perspective and launched Wells on a course that would earn her membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

This special exhibition will offer an in-depth examination of Wells's life and musical career, drawing on the museum's rich collection of artifacts, vintage film footage, photos, costumes, sheet music, concert posters, sound recordings, musical instruments, and personal mementos to tell the story.

With the perfect combination of Chris Difford's lyrics and Glenn Tilbrook's melodies Squeeze created some of the most memorable and most loved songs of any generation of songwriters. With their indecently adept ability for narrating a good domestic yarn over a suitably pithy couplet, their carefully crafted, inventive songs are utterly timeless. It should come as no surprise then, that many of today’s young bands, ranging from The View to Razorlight to Fountains of Wayne have cited Squeeze as a major influence.

In early 2007 it was announced that Difford and Tilbrook would reform Squeeze for a series of shows throughout the latter half of the year, in support of Universal/Warner's release of a new "best of" album, Essential Squeeze. John Bentley re-joined on bass for the first time since Squeeze's last reunion show in 1985. The rest of the line-up was augmented by members of Tilbrook's touring band, The Fluffers: Stephen Large (keyboards) and Simon Hanson (drums). The first actual full-band Squeeze show since 1999 took place at GuilFest 2007, and the band went onto play sold-out shows in the US and UK. Five Live (2008) is the first release on the band's new label, Love Records, and was recorded live on the US leg of the 2007 tour.

Aimee Mann's successful career as a singer, songwriter and bass player has ranged from the Berklee School of Music, to the new wave band 'Til Tuesday to a Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated songwriter on movie soundtracks. Her next album @#%&*! Smilers, will be released in June.

What began as a simple showcase for Nashville’s booming non-country scene in 2006, has quickly grown into a music festival and conference that not only gives a deserving spotlight to the area’s rock, pop, hip-hop, indie and roots artists but also brings together many of the more exciting elements of Nashville’s dynamic and diverse music business community. The 3rd annual Next Big Nashville (NBN) will showcase the best of the thriving Nashville music scene and artistic community September 10-14. The five-day event will feature well more than 100 bands performing in several Nashville venues. In addition to the music, there will be VIP events and after-parties.

This year, for the first time, NBN will open up the submission process to regional bands and will spotlight artists who might not live in Tennessee but are tied to the area through their personal history (the artist was born or grew up there), their business connections (their management, booking, publishing etc. is based there) or their musical endeavors (their album was mixed in Nashville, they have songs co-written with Nashville songwriters etc.).

Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Mozart. Featuring the Nashville Symphony and sung in Italian with projected English translations.

He’s been called the world’s most famous lover and heartbreaker. You may know him as Don Juan. He mocks the order of decent society, but one day he’ll pay. Or will he? Mozart’s sparkling opera features fantastic melodies and surging drama presented here in a visually striking new production conceived by Artistic Director John Hoomes. This GIOVANNI will feel very cinematic in style, incorporating a seamless dramatic flow between the scenes and a bold, innovative use of color and design by set designer Kris Stone. It will definitely be Mozart’s DON GIOVANNI, but it will look like nothing yet designed for the opera stage in Nashville!

The Student Prince by Sigmund Romberg. Featuring the Nashville Opera Orchestra and sung in English with projected English lyrics.

From the intrigue of the King’s palace to the first, tender moments of young love at the University of Heidelberg, this charming operetta will sweep you away with its touching story of romance, love, and loss. Featuring the famous drinking chorus, the Prince’s serenade, and the crowd-pleasing “Golden Days,” the unabashedly sentimental Romberg’s Student Prince promises a singing and dancing escape to a far less cynical day.

Thrill to Gian Carlo Menotti’s touching one-act when we present it with an Operatic Holiday Concert for the whole family. Little Amahl, a poor shepherd boy, has his life forever changed after a chance encounter with Three Kings who are following a star to the manger in Bethlehem. This emotional telling of the journey of the Magi is guaranteed to bring smiles...as well as a few tears. Then enjoy an over-the-top presentation of seasonal carols and favorites sung in festive opera scale with the Nashville Opera Ensemble. Bring the family, because you may even get to sing along on a few numbers!

La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini. Featuring the Nashville Symphony and sung in Italian with projected English translations.

Puccini’s beloved opera needs little introduction. Always championed as one of the most perfect operas ever written, La Bohème is a powerful and beautiful love letter to the precious nature of love and life itself. Follow the lives of Mimi the seamstress and Rodolfo the poet as their love story begins in a loft in Paris. Accompanied by Puccini’s glorious music, the characters become more thrillingly real with every moment…with all the joy and heartbreak life offers.

Acoustic, alternative duo, The Swell Season, are Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova, from the film Once. Glen Hansard (vocals, guitar) of the Irish band, The Frames and Marketa Irglova (vocals, piano) first happened upon one another when The Frames were touring the Czech Republic. The pair met through Irglova's father who is a musician and gig promoter. In 2005 they recorded an album together in Prague entitled The Swell Season, which was released in April 2006 and also featured two Interference musicians, Marja Tuhkanen (violin) and Bertrand Galen (cello). In many ways, the album was to prove partly inspirational for John Carney’s Once, a low-budget indie film that was one of the most successful independent features of 2007. The pair not only wrote the songs for the movie, but they starred in it as well and won an Academy Award for "Falling Slowly" in the Best Original Song category. The year ahead will see Hansard work on the new Frames album while both he and Marketa will tour the U.S. and Europe as The Swell Season.
