Experience Greek culture with a wide variety of events at the Annual Greek Festival. Music, dancing, arts & crafts, and delicious Greek cuisine are some favorite features of each year's event. The festival will be held all weekend long and is designed as a celebration of culture as well as an educational event. Of course, there are plenty of fun activities for kids, who might not understand exactly why they're touring the gorgeous Byzantine-style church, but still appreciate that they've been well fed, had fun, and met lots of new friends.

The 18th century springs to life during the annual Colonial Fair Encampment at Historic Mansker's Station Frontier Life Center, when living history actors take to the center for a day of colonial excitement.

Watch the interaction between "European settlers" and the "natives" as the center is bustling with the activity of a typical meeting day at Mansker's Station. As the gentlemen brings goods to trade and discuss the weather, the ladies crowd together to chat about life in Middle Tennessee's unsettled wilderness.

The fair is guaranteed to be authentic, as all actors and costumed participants must have their costumes and accessories approved by a notable historian before participating. You'll even have the opportunity to buy goods and wares at Traders Row! For a day of fun, education, and living history, make plans now to attend the Colonial Fair Encampment at Mansker's Station.

If there was one thing that Jack Daniel was known for almost as much as making Tennessee Whiskey, it was entertaining. And no doubt about it, Mr. Jack would have been proud to host a few gatherings at the Jack Daniel's Barbecue Pavilion.

Opened in the spring of 2004, Barbecue Hill hosts private events as well as weekly luncheons known as Noon Time on Barbecue Hill. The open-air pavilion offers a spectacular view of the Jack Daniel's Hollow and the town of Lynchburg, Tennessee. And it's tailor-made for good southern cooking and old-fashioned fun.

Noon Time on Barbecue Hill is held each Friday from June through September. The menu includes sumptuous barbecue chicken and tangy pulled pork, creamy coleslaw, homemade potato salad, bubbling baked beans, hot homemade cornbread, tipsy baked apples, Jack Daniel's special chocolate-pecan pie, and home-brewed tea, coffee and lemonade. You’ll enjoy listening to live music performed by local artists as well as playing a game known as bung toss (each guest receives a branded bung!). One thing’s for sure: You’ll never get bored at Barbecue Hill.

Helpful Information: Reservations are required and must be made by Noon Thursday for Friday at Noon. Check in at the Visitor Center courtyard by 10:30am to pick up your tickets. We will shuttle you to the pavilion on our bus. No alcoholic beverages are served and all ages are welcome.

The Jack Daniel's Distillery and the people of Lynchburg, Tenn., will host more than 60 award-winning barbecue teams at the 19th Annual Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue. The Jack Daniel's Invitational is one of the most prestigious barbecue competitions in the world. Teams from across the United States and around the world compete in the categories of Pork Ribs, Pork Shoulder, Beef Brisket and Chicken. They may also choose to enter the "Jack Daniel's Sauce" (these sauces must contain a little of our hometown product), and Desserts (only rule ... nothing store bought) categories. International teams enjoy being especially creative by entering their "Home Cookin' from the Homeland," while our U.S. championship teams do the same with their "Cook's Choice." And on Friday afternoon, seven of these world-class teams will compete in our unique "I Know Jack... about grillin'!" competition.

Helpful Information: Jack Daniels Distillery is sponsoring the Barbecue held in the Wiseman Park located one block off the town square and the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Arts and Crafts Festival that is held on the town square. And is, obviously, an outdoor event. Refunds are not given for Acts of God.

There is no better way to spend a beautiful October day than at the Annual Oktoberfest Celebration in Historic Germantown. This colorful, autumn festival will again entertain, regale, and delight thousands from Middle Tennessee with its unique brand of traditional German revelry.

The day will begin at 9:30am when the two historic sponsoring churches will conduct community wide worship services. From 9:00am until 6:00pm, the Oktoberfest Street Festival kicks off with fun, food, fellowship, and entertainment. There will be a children's activity area featuring games, pony rides, face painting, clowns and snow cones. Enjoy live German music, four musical stages and street performances by Die Musik Meisters, Music City Swing, Steff Mahan Band and guests, Ted Guillaum (Organ Grinder) and more. Try your taste buds at authentic german food and beverages, as well as specialty home baked goods. Don't forget to check out all the arts and crafts booths, while strolling around the festival!

For more than a quarter century, this original, city wide celebration has been offering authentic German food, crafts, tours, dance, and entertainment. Established in 1980, this festival is one of the few nationwide that can claim an authentic German neighborhood as a venue. Oktoberfest showcases the best of this Germantown neighborhood - it's past history, present revitalization, and expanding future growth and diversity.

Helpful Information: The Oktoberfest Festival is held in Nashville's Historic Germantown. The event is located within a six-block area between the Tennessee Bicentennial Mall/Farmer's Market and Taylor Street, and between Fifth Avenue and Rosa L. Parks Boulevard. The two historic churches are on Seventh Avenue North and Monroe Street where the hub of the activities will occur. There is plenty of free parking available beside the festival site and at the Farmer's Market and Bicentennial Mall.

Located in the quiet mystique of Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson, Tenn., the Americana Folk Festival (AFF) showcases local and national artists from Americana, folk, bluegrass, jazz, and other acoustic genres, recreating a sense of the back-porch "picking party," even amidst thousands of fans. Down-home vibe mixed with passion for independent music makes this beloved grassroots event stand out among corporate 'blockbuster' music events that rely on numbers for success.

The 2008 event will feature over 30 bands on three stages, in addition to a green village with ethnic and organic food, exclusive Yazoo Beer (including a custom organic brew specially made for the festival), instrument builders, artisans, outdoor/nature enthusiasts, and other great folks.

What began as a simple showcase for Nashville’s booming non-country scene in 2006, has quickly grown into a music festival and conference that not only gives a deserving spotlight to the area’s rock, pop, hip-hop, indie and roots artists but also brings together many of the more exciting elements of Nashville’s dynamic and diverse music business community. The 3rd annual Next Big Nashville (NBN) will showcase the best of the thriving Nashville music scene and artistic community September 10-14. The five-day event will feature well more than 100 bands performing in several Nashville venues. In addition to the music, there will be VIP events and after-parties.

This year, for the first time, NBN will open up the submission process to regional bands and will spotlight artists who might not live in Tennessee but are tied to the area through their personal history (the artist was born or grew up there), their business connections (their management, booking, publishing etc. is based there) or their musical endeavors (their album was mixed in Nashville, they have songs co-written with Nashville songwriters etc.).

The 2008 Annual International Black Film Festival of Nashville presents Southern Style "Feels Like Home." What comes to mind when you think of the comforts of home? In the South for many it is hanging out on the front porch in a rocking chair with a glass of sweet tea waving at your friends as they go by. It is walking through your neighborhood sharing colorful stories and organizing impromptu barbeques on the weekend. It is meeting new acquaintances that eventually become lifelong friends after only a few days.

The International Black Film Festival of Nashville has that same warm, sharing, welcoming feeling. With Nashville dubbed, “Music City USA”, it proudly boasts rolling hills, mild climate, diverse population, robust economy, and an exploding international business community...setting the stage for a global celebration! But we promise... to always make it feel like home. Numerous screenings, special events, celebrity forums, workshops and panels will be held throughout the four-day festival. Screenings will be held at the Historic Belcourt Theatre in midtown.

IBFF is now accepting submissions until July 31, 2008 and is dedicated to discovering emerging filmmakers and promoting their work. All official IBFF film selections receive tremendous exposure, reaching the festivals broad audience that attracts representatives from distribution companies and leading industry film executives. After screening at IBFF, a number of films have received international recognition and distribution offers.

IBFF is open to independently produced national and international films in the following genres: Short Narrative, Feature Narrative, Documentary Long/Short and Animation. Also accepting faith-based, health & environment and sports-related films. Fill out the entry form and submit your film.

The work of over 80 craft artisans will be available for purchase as The White Oak Craft Fair returns for its 19th year, offering something of interest for everybody who delights in items and products that are individually designed and hand crafted. This juried event celebrates the traditions of split white oak basketmaking and chairmaking that have earned Woodbury, Tenn. the title of "Basketmaking Capital of Appalachia". Taking place among the beautiful rolling hills of Cannon County along the East Fork Stones River just down from the Arts Center, this festival is expected to attract record crowds.

The real stars of the fair are the 80+ professional contemporary and heritage craftsmen. Their remarkable works of pottery, jewelry, woodcarving, charcoal drawings, knives, stained glass, folk art, photography, chairs, baskets, whimsical artwork, weaving, woodwork, glass, quilts, wood furniture, swings, wood bowls, scrollwork, walking sticks, watercolor and prints, needlework, ironwork, candles and much more grab the spotlight at this event. Along with food booths to tempt the palate and quench the thirst, The Arts Center Cafe will provide great southern cooking inside the Arts Center. A distinguished jury will award cash prizes of $1,000 to the crafts artists as a way of promoting quality and integrity in the craft arts. The White Oaks Craft Fair is sponsored by the Cannon Association of Craft Artists and is made possible in part by the Tennessee Arts Commission. Donations go to the Woodbury Lions Club.

Submit your film to the 40th Annual Nashville Film Festival, one of MovieMaker Magazine's "20 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee." Nashville Film Festival (NaFF) is hosted by the Regal Green Hills Stadium 16 in the Green Hills area of Nashville. With more than 22,000 people attending our 2008 edition, it is one of the best-known arts events in Tennessee and is the biggest, most international film festival in the mid-South.

Last year NaFF received over 1700 submissions from all over the world and 215 films from 38 countries were selected. NaFF provides the only opportunity to see many of these films in this region of the U.S. With over $15,000 in cash awards, as well as other valuable goods and services, submitting your film to NaFF offers great opportunities to compete for unique and diverse awards that really pay off! Click HERE to see the 2009 NaFF awards.

Because it takes place in “Music City,” Nashville Film Festival places special focus on music in films with its “Music Films in Music City” section and two special music awards. Additionally, NaFF has special sections for family films, local film screenings, gay & lesbian films, and young filmmakers age 18 and under. To download a PDF of the Nashville Film Festival application, click HERE.
